Hatchets4Heroes for a Better Future

The great work coming out of this organization sprang from the minds of Austin and Alisha Shepperd. Both left for the Army straight out of high school, met in AIT (yes an AIT marriage lol), and served as combat medics.  Austin was deployed to Iraq during the troop surge OIF 06-08. After Austin was medically retired and diagnosed with PTSD by the VA, all their plans changed. The struggles that resulted were difficult to bear to say the least.

Addiction felt like the answer until divorce came knocking at the door and was answered. Austin had pushed away all he loved and the demons inside were winning the war within. After a one-on-one with God, Austin knew he had a purpose, but wasn’t going to find it unless he was sober. The VA sent him to get help, and he has never looked back. After rebuilding their family the couple started in a new direction, TOGETHER.
